Celebrating International Museum Day – A Journey Through History with Nikos Kazantzakis

On Sunday, May 18th, we celebrated International Museum Day in a truly special way.

Together with teens aged 13 to 18 and their parents, we embarked on a fascinating journey through Greek and world history, inspired by the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis. This was part of the museum’s family educational program “History Lessons with Nikos Kazantzakis.”

Exploring the collections of the Museum’s Permanent Exhibition, we uncovered key milestones in both Greek and global history. Working in groups, we delved into selected novels by Kazantzakis that are closely tied to these historical events, focusing on the literary, historical, and social context of each era. As Kazantzakis himself writes in Report to Greco, history is a “many-teared, many-wandered story.”

With creativity and teamwork, participants—both young and old—joined forces to craft their own narrative, which we recorded and turned into a podcast. Each group thus contributed its own unique “history lesson with Nikos Kazantzakis.”

We warmly thank all the young participants and their parents for their enthusiasm and joyful spirit.
We are also deeply grateful to every visitor who joined us in celebrating International Museum Day. Your response was truly overwhelming!

The podcasts will soon be available on the Educational Programs section of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum website: education.kazantzaki.gr
