The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos, visited Crete in the occasion of the proclamation of 2017 as the "Year of Nikos Kazantzakis" in order to attend events dedicated to the great writer.

During his stay on the island, he visited the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum where he was given a guided tour of the the exhibit halls and he talked about the author's up-to-date speech at the museum's event hall in the presence of 70 young men and women of Greek origin from Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Moldova who were in Crete as part of the training program:"In the trail of Kazantzakis".

At the event, Christoforos Charalambakis, Professor of linguistics also talked about the work and the power of the language of Nikos Kazantzakis.

The president of the Kazantzakis Museum, Michael Taroudakis, presented the President of the Republic with a commemorative plaque with the figure of Nikos Kazantzakis and a copy of "Odyssey".
