Museum of Byzantine Culture of Thessaloniki | 13 March 2019, 8.00 p.m.

The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum and the Museum of Byzantine Culture, together with the Region of Crete co-organize this temporary exhibition.

The exhibition includes evidence from the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, which highlights unknown aspects of Nikos Kazantzakis’ multilevel and creative relationship with the cultural wealth of the Byzantine world and the way this wealth was translated into his work.

The exhibition will be held in the “Eftychia Kourkoutidou-Nikolaidou” Hall of the Museum of Byzantine Culture until 15 September 2019.

At the opening ceremony the following persons will speak: Dr. Agathoniki Tsilipakou, Director of the Museum of Byzantine Culture, Professor Michalel Taroudakis, President of the Board of Directors of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, and Mr. Kostas Fasoulakis from the Region of Crete.

The event will take place in the foyer of the Museum of Byzantine Culture and will be framed with extracts from the work of Christos Leontis, “Mother of God”, based on the Akathistos Hymn of Romanos the Melodist.

Participants: the Orchestra of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki under the direction of Dimitris Dimopoulos and members of the Choirs of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Soloists: Elisso Davli (Mezzo-Soprano), Apostolos Sotiroudis.

A guided tour of the exhibition will follow by its curator, archaeologist Vangelis Charitopoulos.
