Summer 2025 in Myrtia: a new series of events by the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum

The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, as a cultural institution located in the heartland of Crete and a producer of major cultural events, returns this summer with a new series of events titled “Summer 2025 in Myrtia.” All events will take place at the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum in Myrtia, co-organized with the Region of Crete, with the support of the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia and the Cultural Association of Myrtia.

Specifically:

20 July, 21:00 – “Letters to Eleni”: A poetic dialogue between Kazantzakis’ words and music. This special artistic event transforms the correspondence between Nikos Kazantzakis and his wife Eleni into a live narrative and musical experience. Their letters—full of tenderness, contemplation, and intellectual alertness—“converse” on stage with musical works performed by internationally renowned pianist Alexia Mouza. The performance is directed by Nikolis Avramakis, who will read the letters alongside Niki Stavrou—donor of the invaluable archive and literary rights holder of the author’s work.

31 July, 21:00 – “Echoes of the Invisible”: The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum and the Labyrinth Musical Workshop join forces for the first time in a unique concert featuring Ross Daly and a host of acclaimed musicians. Ross Daly, with his music that touches the boundaries of the visible and the invisible, encounters Kazantzakis in a spiritual dialogue. At the same time, the Museum’s travelling exhibition “Nikos Kazantzakis: Life and Work” will be hosted as part of the Labyrinth Music Festival in Houdetsi.

27 August, 20:30 – “Kazantzakis’ Crete in 7+1 Stops”:
A multidimensional cultural journey following the writer’s footsteps across Crete. Families from Myrtia, members of the diaspora, and artists from the wider region join forces to reconstruct, through the dialogue of the arts, Kazantzakis’ path in the place that gave birth to, shaped, and inspired him.

13 September, 20:30 – “Mitropoulos, Kazantzakis, Theodorakis: The Meeting of Three Greats”: The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum highlights the profound, essential connection between three leading figures of Greek intellect and music through a one-of-a-kind concert. In the first part, works by the legendary conductor and composer Dimitris Mitropoulos will be performed by Tasos Apostolou, baritone of the Greek National Opera, Katerina Chatzinikolaou, concertmaster of the Athens State Orchestra, Apostolos Palios, internationally acclaimed pianist. In the second part, lyrical works by Mikis Theodorakis will be interpreted by the distinguished singer Elli Paspala, accompanied on piano by the internationally renowned conductor Miltos Logiadis.

A summer of culture in Myrtia, with Nikos Kazantzakis at the center and Crete as a stage of inspiration and creativity.
