Τhe "Sophia Mathioudakis" Prize
The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, is honoured to award the "Sophia Mathioudakis" Prize for the student literary competition on the theme "Responsibility and Dignity in the Work of Nikos Kazantzakis", in which the students of the 6th and 44th Primary School of Heraklion, as well as the Primary School of Myrtia, participated.
The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, fulfilling the wish of the late Adamantios N. Mathioudakis, held a student literary competition for the students of the 6th grade of the above schools and the winners will receive the "Sophia Mathioudakis" Prize. The late Sophia Mathioudaki served as a teacher with dedication and love for many years at the 6th Primary School of Heraklion.
The students participated by creating literary works that highlighted the concepts of responsibility and dignity - concepts that form the core of Kazantzakis' work. In their texts they reflected the ideas, reflections and knowledge they gained during the school year, with the guidance of their teachers and the assistance of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum. A five-member scientific committee appointed by the Museum was responsible for evaluating the students' entries.
The award ceremony of the "Sophia Mathioudakis" Prize will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., in the "G. Anemogiannis" Hall of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, in the presence of the students who participated in the competition. All the texts written by the students will be exhibited in the "Cleopatra Priftis" room of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum's Multipurpose Room.
