To the Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, collaborating researcher of the Institute of Computational Mathematics of the Institute of Technology and Research (ITE), and professor of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics of the University of Crete, Michalis Taroudakis, was awarded the International Award "EAA award for contributions to the promotion of Acoustics in Europe" by the European Acoustics Association (EAA), www.euracoustics.org during the "FORUM ACUSTICUM 2023" Conference held in Turin, September 11-15, 2023. The prize is awarded by the EAA, every three years , to a person or body whose action has contributed to the development of interest in acoustic science in Europe.


The  European Acoustics Association is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1992 and has as its members the scientific societies of the countries of Europe that deal with Acoustics. The EAA currently has 34 scientific Acoustical Societies as members with a total of 9000 individual members across Europe.


Its objectives include the promotion and dissemination of the science of acoustics worldwide, the interconnection of its members with clubs, associations, with public and private organizations and businesses, scientific institutions, universities, professional organizations, etc., and the conclusion of cooperation agreements with European and international bodies. Also the organization of conferences and the publication of relevant publications, educational activities, and the establishment and implementation of standards and recommendations in the various fields of acoustics, especially in the field of environmental acoustics, for a better quality of life.


Professor Michalis Taroudakis was honored with this important award for his overall scientific activity and contribution to the administration of both the EAA and the International Commission for Acoustics, which led, among other things, to the establishment of the International Year of Sound 2020 -2021 of which he was the coordinator.
