On Thursday, April 18, the new production of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, the mini documentary "I am a Free", was presented with great success in the crowded "Fugaro" Hall in Heraklion.

The execution of the production was undertaken by EyeQ creative media with director Nikos Pantermarakis and Sandra Odette Kypriotakis in the artistic direction. The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum had the scientific curation, the selection of archival material and the general coordination, while from now on the documentary will be screened within the Museum's Permanent Exhibition in Myrtia village. This is a short film-introduction that, with the use of rich material from the Kazantzakis Museum Archive, highlights the vast literal production, but also the biography of Nikos Kazantzakis, illuminating his aesthetics, thoughts, symbols as well as unknown or overlooked aspects of his route.

At the start of the event, a soundscape was performed with quotes by Nikos Kazantzakis with Maria Tzani's voice atmospherically tying with the original musical composition of Alexandros Kefirides. It was followed live by a small kinesiology action that gave an idea for the work, edited and choreographed by Constantinos Theodoris and danced by him together with Zoi Karabekiou.

They spoke about the documentary:
The Director of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum Marilena Milathianaki who had the general coordination of the production. She highlighted the special care taken to ensure the preservation of the great author's global appeal through the subtitling of the documentary in 10 different languages (Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Korean and Hebrew) and how it is one of many other new digital tools being equipped with the Museum which has just reopened after eight months. Sandra Kypriotaki, Artistic Director of EYEQ, referred to the difficulties but also to the awe they felt, in their attempt to highlight in a short documentary the enormous personality of Nikos Kazantzakis. She stood in the iconic scenes of simplicity, stillness, depth and symbolism, open to interpretations and thoughts filmed for the needs of the documentary. Finally, Nikos Kazantzakis Museum Collections Curator Paraskevi Vasiliadis, who was the scientific editor of the documentary on behalf of the Museum, highlighted the importance and the challenge of creating a new documentary about Kazantzakis that, on the one hand, will incorporate modern scientific findings about life and the work of the author, on the other hand, will be comprehensive and will make the enormous size of Kazantzakis easily perceptible to every visitor of the Museum.
