The aim of Kazantzakis Museum is not only the preservation and the exhibition of its collections but also to provide an experience that combines education with entertainment. To achieve the above objectives, Kazantzakis Museum organizes a diverse program of activities for all audiences (adults, children, teenagers, families):

  • Educational programs for school groups
  • Educational programs for families
  • Workshops and seminars for children, adolescents and adults
  • Seminars for educators / teachers
  • Seminars and lectures on life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis
  • Cultural events
  • Collaborations with other cultural and educational institutions

The Kazantzakis Museum's Educational Activities Department develops and implements educational programs for all the classes of Primary and Secondary School. The programs are designed according to the needs and interests of each age group, the possibilities and the limitations of space and the Interdisciplinary Curriculum Framework (DEPPS) and process specific issues, approaching every time a different aspect of Cretan writer's life and work.

The initial aim of these programms is to familiarize children with the concept "museum" (space, collections, behaviour) and, mainly, with the personality and literary work of Nikos Kazantzakis. Through methods of non-formal education, children discover the cultural heritage of their region, observe the objects, exchange ideas and opinions, investigate and express themselves in their own unique way. Educational programs are available in Greek.

The mission of Kazantzakis Museum's Educational Activities Department is to transform the visit to the museum into a pleasant experience, tailored to the interests and potential of children, nurturing a positive attitude to culture.
