The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum had the pleasure to welcome on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in Heraklion, the students and teachers of the 6th Grade of the 20th & 56th Primary School of Heraklion to walk to Heraklion's city center "In the Footsteps of Nikos Kazantzakis ».

The educational walk was originally designed in the context of the conference "The female figure in the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis" held October 20-22, 2023 at the Vikelaia Municipal Library of Heraklion and was now adapted for primary school children.

Children and teachers walked through the alleys of the neighborhood where Nikos Kazantzakis grew up, identified the place where the house where he was born was located and visited historical monuments of the city, such as the "little" Agios Minas, the Metropolitan Church of Agios Minas, Agia Ekaterini, Morosini Fountain (Lions Squqre) which relate to the author's childhood. Through descriptions from the work of Nikos Kazantzakis and archival material, they discovered what Heraklion was like at that time. They also tried to feel the smells and sounds that could be heard in the streets and learned from the lecturers about the way of life of the residents of Heraklion.

The group finished their walk through the city with a visit to the Jesus Gate at the "Nikos Kazantzakis Exhibition" of the Municipality of Heraklion.
